Amberjack are among the hardest-fighting fish you can catch on a day trip in the Gulf of Mexico. These powerful fish average 20–25 pounds, but we’ve landed giants weighing 75–80 pounds—and some have even reached 130 pounds!
To keep an amberjack, it must be at least 30 inches long. You're allowed one per person per day, and the captain and crew cannot retain any. The season is closed from June 1 through July 31.
We typically find amberjack in 100–150 feet of water. However, they’ve been spotted as shallow as 50 feet and as deep as 400 feet, especially later in the season.
When targeting amberjack, bring your “A” game. These fish don’t go down without a fight—and that’s what makes catching them so exciting.
